We posted a video on TikTok showing the WeepEase™ Tool in action. Quick, simple, clean.
But it wasn’t the tool that got the internet fired up. It was the brickwork pattern.
That’s right. Stack bond.
Apparently, a wall without staggered bricks is all it takes to send TikTok into meltdown. The comment section went off. Some people were confused, others were genuinely concerned, and a few were flat-out horrified.
So let’s set the record straight.
What Is Stack Bond?
Stack bond is a type of feature brickwork where the vertical joints line up from course to course. Each brick sits directly above the one below instead of overlapping like in stretcher bond.
It’s a clean, modern look that’s often used in:
- Decorative facades
- Brick veneer on lightweight framing
- Feature walls or garden walls
- Non-structural facework
It’s not the pattern you’d use for structural, load-bearing brickwork on its own. But that’s not what it’s for.
When supported with steel, ties or frame structure, stack bond is perfectly safe and completely compliant. It’s also used in architectural design all over the world.
TikTok’s Reaction: A Masterclass in Confusion
Some of the comments were pure gold. Here are a few of our favourites that had us laughing and shaking our heads:
“Is it even safe to stack bricks without make cross section between layers?”
“Who lays brick on top like that?”
“Okay legit question, I’m not a bricklayer but I usually see bricks are laid in a certain pattern not like this.. is this correct?”
“Who patterns brick like that?”
Stack bond clearly triggered some strong opinions. But rest assured, it’s a real and valid style of brickwork used across the world. And yes, it passed inspection.
When to Use Stack Bond (And When to Stick to Stretcher)
Stack bond is perfect when:
- You’re building a feature wall
- The brickwork is non-structural
- You want a clean, contemporary look
- The structure behind is reinforced or framed
You should avoid it when:
- You need a structural wall and have no reinforcement
- You don’t want to spend half your day explaining it to the internet
